This report constitutes the contribution of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) to the EULAC-Energytran project, coordinated by the Organization of Ibero-American States (OEI). Its aim is to analyze the social tensions arising in decarbonization processes across Ibero-America, using a comparative approach between different countries and social contexts. The energy transition is presented as a necessary condition for addressing the climate crisis. However, its implementation and likelihood of success face a series of sociopolitical challenges that go beyond technological aspects. This report is based on the premise that only a rapid and as fair as possible transition can be socially sustainable and achieve the decarbonization targets established in the Paris Agreement.
