On Thursday 10 April 2025, the C\u00e9sar Manrique Foundation (FCM) hosted the conference entitled \u2018Paisaje-petr\u00f3leo: una historia (anti)fascista del progreso y el crimen\u2019, given by Jaime Vindel, historian, philosopher and researcher at the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Cient\u00edficas (CSIC). The event took place in the Sala Jos\u00e9 Saramago (La Plazuela, Arrecife) and was broadcast live on the FCM website and Youtube channel. During his lecture, Vindel analysed the relationship between the imaginaries of fossil modernity and the cultural transformations that have taken place since the second half of the 20th century. Taking neo-capitalist Italy as a case study, he proposed a broader reflection on the current context of eco-social emergence. To this end, he took as his starting point Pier Paolo Pasolini’s Corsair Writings and his posthumous novel, Petr\u00f3leo (1992), in which the Italian poet, filmmaker and intellectual explored the history of ENI (Ente Nazionale Idrocarburi [National Hydrocarbon Agency]), which went from being a project of national and anti-colonial capitalism to becoming a prototype of neoliberal globalisation. According to various sources, the tensions surrounding the ENI led to Pasolini’s own assassination.<\/p>\n
