2021 marks exactly half a century since the publication of a book whose importance and depth in diagnosing the problems of late modernity has only increased since its publication. In the field of social science, Nicholas Georgescu-Roegen’s seminal work, The Law of Entropy and the Economic Process<\/em>, made a decisive contribution to a new perspective in the analysis of economic phenomena: what he called bioeconomics and what has since developed into ecological economics.<\/p>\n

But beyond his scientific contributions and without abandoning the cold objectivity that springs from thermodynamic considerations of economics, Georgescu Roegen’s work was an enormous intellectual shake-up in the field of culture, ideas and ways of life that accompanied fossilist capitalism.\u00a0The Entropy Law and the Economic Process<\/em> warned of the problem of resource depletion and the thermodynamic unsustainability of an economic system that demands perpetual growth, but it also confronted us with the moral implications that we would sooner or later have to face if we continued along the path the world has been on since then.<\/p>\n

What in 1971 was a dangerous future horizon, in 2021 imposes itself as the most serious problem that our time has to face.\u00a0TEL+50\/ Transdisciplinary Readings is a series of four conferences in four different venues that, this autumn, will analyse, evaluate and disseminate the legacy of the great Romanian economist based in the USA. In Madrid, 19 and 20 October, C\u00edrculo de Bellas Artes. In Valencia, 26 and 27 October, La Nau. In Zaragoza, 2 and 3 November, Faculty of Economics and Business of the University of Zaragoza. And in Bilbao, 9 and 10 November, Faculty of CC. Economics of the UPV\/ EHU.<\/p>\n
