On the Energy Humanities: Contributions from the Humanities, Social Sciences, and Arts to Understanding Energy Transition and Energy Impasse is a report by the SSHRC Imagining Canada’s Future Initiative, Knowledge Synthesis Grants, led by Imre Szeman, that was elaborated to conduct a study of contemporary research on the social, cultural and political components of energy transition in the humanities and arts, as well as to help identify shortfalls in current understanding and areas where more research is needed. The report shows how energy is not a neutral component for running the economies of our societies, but a seminal aspect in morphing our experience and imaginaries, while it also proves how an emerging field — such as “energy humanities” — can serve to grasp, in a better way, the various types of socio-cultural impasses that obstruct our transition to a post-fossil fuel society.
