The anti-technological fear that has corroded the left in recent times, and the associations that have always been made between restoring our relationship with the rest of nature and an austere return to earlier ways of life, do not align with the way reality is, in fact, being reconstructed. It is not necessary to surrender to technophilia or childish ecomodernism, nor to accept every innovation as inherently beneficial, to observe that the unprecedented expansion and falling costs of renewable energies are laying the material foundations for a new industrial revolution. Although socially and regionally uneven, with setbacks and missteps, and confronted with the fossil reaction, this transformation—based on clean development, energy, and technology, and on leaps in scale—is opening the door to a new world within the limits of our planet.”
