The article reviews the intellectual trajectory of Raymond Williams focusing on the relations between culture and ecology. To this end, it considers the originality of his work in the context of the new materialist approaches that emerged from the 1950s onwards in fields such as anthropology and the New Left. This historical review allows us to approach the nature-culture binomial in discussion with some more recent theories, as well as to highlight the relevance of Williams’ cultural materialism in order to imagine art as a form of organization of the sensitive experience that faces the challenges of the current ecosocial crisis.
